Just outside Calafate on the road to Perito Moreno. La Estepa is run and owned by two former guides, Marina and her partner Octavio along with their young family. They have a knowledge and passion for the area and Marina is from an estancia family and designed the hosteria using as many features as she could from a traditional Patagonian homestead. The structure uses the traditional corrugated panels but with large picture windows with views to Lago Argentino and the mountains. She has also grown pretty flower borders with native species attracting birds and bees outside your window. The common areas are airy open spaces with lots of objects and artifacts from her family estancia. Lots of old photos and maps on the walls are a real story and education of the history of this part of the world. Rooms are simple but comfortable coloured with textures and colours of the brown and russet Patagonian steppe with small en-suite bathrooms. La Estepa will give you a friendly authentic taste of Patagonian life and not just a hotel room.
